Compare Proactiv vs. LexLi Acne products
The Proactiv 3 step system is composed of a Cleanser with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide; a Toner with Glycolic acid and Witch Hazel and a Repair Lotion with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. This is an excellent regimen to address mild to moderate acne and control recurrent breakouts. This is not enough for the spectrum of the multiple causes and variables involved in on-going and severe acne. The benzoyl peroxide is effective against the bacteria to a considerable extent, but a stronger source, or combination of anti-biotic ingredients is necessary to combat the resilient acne bacteria such as P. Acnes, and other bacteria that may exist in the area such as Staph and Streptococcus.
The Lexli Acne Kit includes a number of anti-biotic ingredients including Benzoyl Peroxide, Sulfur, Aloe, Retinyl Propionate, Saponins, Tea Tree Oil and Zinc Pyrithone. The combination of which in appropriate amounts help fight the bacteria involved in acne progression. The glycolic acid helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells. But, in a water based product such as the Proactiv Toner, the formulation cannot achieve a low enough pH to be effective for all skins. This therefore limits the exfoliating potential of the glycolic acid in this preparation, and in acne prone individuals where the cells are unusually "sticky" it may not remove enough dead cells to make a significant difference. The exfoliant product in the Lexli Acne Kit is also called AloeGlyC. This is patented formulation formulated by Dr. Abdullah for skin rejuvenation. The low pH and high acid content of this product, combined with the soothing anti-inflammatory properties of high dose, pure Aloe Vera and other anti-inflammatory ingredients make this a very potent product to eradicate the dead skin cells clogging pores and making acne worse.
